3 days until Africa!

OK, it's for real now! Less than 3 days until the Africa trip. I am getting super excited.

I can't believe that it's almost here. We booked the trip in August 2008. Long time to wait for the trip but well worth it.

I was listening to the weather report today and found out that rain/snow was forcasted for Friday. Not to worry though friend Megan's husband is a meteorlogist. He looked at the weather reports and said that we would be ok for our fly out time on Friday. Of course the weather can change at any moment but Si's thumbs up weather report gave us (me) one less thing to worry about.

I decided to purchase a camcorder for the trip. While John is snapping pictures of the animals with his super fancy camera, I thought I may as well be doing something useful (besides gawking at the animals). The camcorder that I got is a Flip Mino. It is a little bigger than my cell phone and is quite lightweight. Not to worry though it has a motion stabilizer in it. Otherwise we would all get a little dizzy when watching the video of the Safari when we got home. Its pretty easy to use too. The record button is a big red one.

I am heavily anticipating the long flight to Africa. The longest part will be flying from Atlanta to Johannesberg. That leg of the trip will be 12-14 hours. One of my Disney friends recommended using a neck pillow for extra seat padding for part of the trip. Apparently "the bottom side" gets quite sore when sitting on a plane that long.

Sleeping on the plane will be an adventure I'm sure. Disclosure: both of us snore. I'm sure that the passengers close to us will know that by the end of the plane trip. That reminds me I need to go and buy some ear plugs. I surely don't want to hear myself snore!!!

I've been trying to cut back on the amount of pop that I drink. The caffeine goes along with the job-poor excuse I know. As we go West to East on our African Adventure the area becomes more remote. I don't think that there is pop machines out on the Savannah so I decided that I needed to have my caffeine withdrawal headaches state side. Now that that's over I can get on with the trip.

The suitcases are mostly packed. One weighs 37 pounds and the other 35 pounds (before I added another pair of shoes). Each suitcase has to be under 40 pounds and we can only take one suitcase each. Nothing has been said about our backpacks though. No weight limit on that. Every inch of our suitcases is used. If you need help packing your car for your next vacation you know who to call.

Newsflash:
-I'm going to try and blog a bit here and there while we are in Africa. It will not be everyday. Some of the hotels will have Wi-fii some won't. I won't know which ones have internet connection until we get there.
-I will not be able to be reached through the blog as my blogging will be hit or miss.

Happy reading!
